Les Arcs 1950 Ski Holiday

Posted:

Last winter, teenager Evie spent New Years with her family on a ski holiday to Les Arcs 1950; a luxury, car-free ski-in/ski-our resort in the French Alps. Here, she tells us all about it.

Spending New Year in Les Arcs 1950 was one of the best decisions we’ve made for a winter holiday. It’s a small village high up in the French Alps, and it feels like it was made just for enjoying the snow and the mountains. When we arrived, everything was covered in fresh snow, the streets were lit up with Christmas lights, and the whole place looked like something from a winter postcard.

Les Arcs is a car-free village, which makes it very peaceful. You can walk everywhere, and most of the accommodation is right on the slopes, so you just put your skis on and go! This is ideal for large families with children, like mine. The buildings are made to look like old mountain chalets, with wood and stone everywhere, but the apartments are modern and comfortable inside.

We spent most of our days skiing. The snow was great and there are runs for everyone; easy ones for beginners and steeper ones for more experienced skiers. The ski area is massive, especially if you get the full Paradiski pass, which includes both Les Arcs and La Plagne. One of our favourite runs was from the top of Aiguille Rouge (an easy blue slope). It's long, has amazing views and you can ski all the way down to Villaroger.

New Year’s Eve in the village was really special. In the evening, the ski instructors came down the slope carrying torches, and everyone gathered to watch. Then they had a big fireworks show over the mountains. Later, some people went to the bars and partied, while others, like us, had dinner and drinks back at the hotel and watched the snow fall from the balcony.

When we weren’t skiing, we went to the spa in the village — sitting in a warm outdoor pool while it snowed was definitely a highlight. There were also lots of little shops, bakeries, and cafés to explore, and plenty of places serving fondue and raclette if you want to try local food.

We stayed in the Premium Residence Arc 1950 hotel. It had everything we needed, including a small kitchen and a comfy lounge, plus ski lockers and access to a pool. Being right in the centre of the village made everything easy.

If you’re thinking about a New Year’s ski trip and want a place that’s fun, easy to get around, and full of winter charm, I’d really recommend Les Arcs 1950!
