Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup

Sandy Lane Hotel is the title sponsor of one of the premiere events on the international horse racing calendar, the Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup. This race-day is held annually on the first Saturday in March.

With a history of over 40 years, the Gold Cup is one of the longest running sporting events on the island. 2023 will mark Sandy Lane’s 27th year of sponsorship of what has become one of the most anticipated race days not only in Barbados, but throughout the world.

During the course of Sandy Lane’s partnership with The Barbados Turf Club, the Gold Cup has become an event that has been beamed to a live television audience in the United States and England of more than 300 million. The main event of Barbados’ racing season attracts entrants from across the Caribbean as well as the U.S.A. The excitement surrounding race day begins long before the first race is run. The enduring symbol of success in the feature race of a full race card is the Gold Cup itself. Minted in England, the stunning Gold Cup is flown to Barbados on British Airways and prominently displayed for several weeks before race day.

Race day itself entails a full card of races each named for a landmark at the Sandy Lane resort leading up to the feature race - The Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup - which is preceded by a spectacular opening parade. Guests of the resort are hosted in the beautifully decorated Sandy Lane Box which is fully catered throughout the day with sumptuous array of culinary delights. Complimentary transfers are provided to and from the Historic Garrison Savannah.
